John S. Cobb is recognized as one of the “Top Ten Business Lawyers in Downstate Illinois” as named in the Leading Lawyer Network Magazine. John is trustee and past chair of the James Millikin Estate; he serves as a bank director and chairs the bank’s Investment & Funds Management Committee. John is past chair of the Illinois Secretary of State’s Corporate Acts Advisory Committee and co-authored the amendments to the Illinois Franchise Tax and License Fees for business corporations. John regularly lectures on governance and entity selection to MBA, college, not-for-profit and business groups.
John advises for profit and not-for-profit entities on organizational, governance, contracting, acquisition and finance matters; and works closely with other Samuels Miller attorneys to provide succession, estate and charitable planning.
John has represented buyers and sellers for acquisitions in the accounting, banking, bottling, broadcasting, construction, health care, insurance, manufacturing, petroleum, pharmaceutical, retail, transportation and vending industries. John has worked with numerous families to successfully complete succession plans. He represents business clients with short-term and long-term capital and financing needs requiring sophisticated credit arrangements, including tax exempt municipal bond financing.
John is married to Dr. Susan Schroeder Cobb, professor of piano and pedagogy at Millikin University. He is the father of Courtney Anne Cobb-McCarthy and Andrew Scott Cobb and the proud grandfather of Ella Margaret Cobb and Ava Francis Cobb.
